YAP positively impacts dis-engaged and at-risk youth! While two-thirds of YAP youth are high school dropouts, 89% of us choose to engage in education post-program.

  • 54% are now high school graduates!
  • 35% are currently enrolled students
  • 57% have gotten jobs

And YAP makes a positive difference in our community!

  • Creation of educational gardens on the grounds of Mt. Anthony Union Middle School and Manchester Elementary Middle School
  • Donation of many thousands of pounds of organic produce to Meals on Wheels and the needy
  • Restoration of the historic Hiland Hall garden
  • Streetscape flower maintenance for the local community college and the town hall
  • Creation of a natural outdoor children’s play area at Vermont Arts Exchange • River clean-up work for the Walloomsac River
  • Start-up of the Manchester Community Garden
  • Creation of YAP Farm at Hiland Hall

YAP HarvestPlus…and this is really exciting…we’re building a local food system! The YAP Food Network links local farmers and producers to local institutional customers.

In spring of 2012 YAP launched the YAP Food Network in southwest Vermont with great success. Piloted with select farms in southwest Vermont, along with original gardens maintained by the YAP youth crews, the YAP Food Network was able to supply customers such as the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with fresh, premium produce all season long—often selling out entire inventories. This year we’re including even more farmers and producers in the YAP Food Network and look forward to added growth and success!
